Environmental Health Centre
During the operation of the smelter, the Environmental Health Centre (EHC) was established and located at 3 Main Road, Boolaroo to provide a number of free services to reduce blood lead levels. The services included routine blood testing, information and education programs to parents, schools and community groups, case management for families where children have elevated blood lead levels, high efficiency particle (‘HEPA’) vacuum cleaner loan service and limited remediation activities aimed at reducing the exposure to lead within the community.
As risks associated with lead in air were no longer required after the smelter closure, the EHC was closed in 2007.
